We use the information we get from Google Analytics only to improve our Services. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. This data is primarily used for maintaining service operation, security, and basic analytics.
  • Location Data. We collect imprecise location data based on information such as your IP address. This is necessary for the basic functioning and security of the Services. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.

California law requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser DNT signals. Because there currently is not an industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we do not respond to them at this time.

Account Deletion Policy

Informal Summary -- You can permanently delete your account at any time from your account dashboard. This will remove your personal travel data but preserve anonymized public contributions. You must cancel any active subscriptions first. The content below is the formal version of this information for legal purposes.

Right to Delete Your Account

In accordance with GDPR Article 17 (Right to Erasure) and similar provisions in CCPA and other privacy laws, you have the right to request deletion of your personal data at any time.

You can delete your account directly from your Account Dashboard at any time without needing to contact support.

What Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, the following personal data is permanently removed and cannot be recovered:

  • Account Information: Your email address, account profile, and authentication credentials
  • Travel History: All cities you've marked as visited
  • Country Records: All countries you've tracked
  • Travel Timelines: Any custom travel itineraries or timelines you've created
  • Preferences: All saved settings and preferences
  • Subscription Records: Records of your subscription history (after cancellation)

What Gets Anonymized (Not Deleted)

To preserve the quality of our community-driven platform while respecting your privacy, the following contributions are anonymized rather than deleted:

  • City Votes: Your votes for which cities should be added to StayMapper are retained without your user ID
  • Feature Requests & Feedback: Your suggestions and votes on the roadmap remain visible but are no longer linked to your account
  • Content Quality Ratings: Your thumbs up/down ratings on city descriptions and content are retained anonymously

Rationale: These anonymized contributions help us understand what our community values and improve the platform for all users. Once anonymized, we cannot re-associate this data with you or any individual.

Subscription Requirements

Active Subscriptions: If you have an active premium subscription that will renew, you must cancel it first before deleting your account. This prevents unintended billing after account deletion.

To cancel your subscription:

  1. Go to your Account Dashboard
  2. Click "Manage Subscription" in the Premium Status section
  3. Follow the prompts to cancel your subscription
  4. Return to the Account Dashboard to delete your account

Cancelled Subscriptions with Remaining Time: If you've already cancelled your subscription but still have access until the end of your billing period, you can delete your account immediately. We will ensure the subscription does not renew.

Account Deletion Process

  1. Navigate to Account Dashboard: Visit staymapper.com/account-info
  2. Expand Danger Zone: Scroll to the bottom and expand the "Danger Zone: Delete Account" section
  3. Review What Will Be Deleted: Read the detailed list of data that will be permanently removed
  4. Cancel Subscription (if applicable): If you have an active subscription, cancel it first
  5. Initiate Deletion: Click "Delete My Account Permanently"
  6. Confirm: Review the final confirmation modal showing exactly what will be deleted and confirm your decision

Timeframe

Account deletion is processed immediately and irreversibly. There is no grace period or recovery option. Once you confirm deletion:

  • You are immediately signed out
  • Your personal data is deleted from our active databases within seconds
  • Backup systems are purged during the next backup cycle (within 30 days)

After Deletion

Once your account is deleted:

  • You cannot log back in with your previous email address
  • Your travel data cannot be recovered
  • To use StayMapper again, you must create a new account and rebuild your travel history
  • If you had a subscription, no further charges will occur

Legal Basis

This deletion policy is designed to comply with:

  • GDPR Article 17: Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten") for EU residents
  • CCPA Section 1798.105: Right to Deletion for California residents
  • Other U.S. State Privacy Laws: Similar deletion rights in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and other states

Exceptions

We may retain minimal information if required by law, such as:

  • Financial transaction records required for tax or accounting purposes (typically 7 years)
  • Records necessary to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes
  • Anonymized data that cannot be re-identified to you
